This victory marked Shelton's first title on grass and added to his impressive seasonal tally of three championships, following triumphs in Dallas and Munich. The 23-year-old, ranked fifth in the world, showcased remarkable resilience by saving nine out of eleven break points.

Shelton expressed his delight at the victory, citing the difficulty of the week's matches and the quality of his opponents. Notably, the only other player with three titles this year is Italian world number one Jannik Sinner.
