In a decisive match at the FIH Hockey Women's Nations Cup in Auckland, the Indian Women's Hockey Team clinched a 2-1 win against Japan, ensuring their place in the semi-finals. The encounter at the North Harbour National Hockey Centre saw Captain Salima Tete and Lalremsiami net crucial goals for India.
The match remained intensely competitive in the first half, with both teams vying for the lead but neither able to find the back of the net. It was in the third quarter that India broke through, as Salima Tete capitalized on a penalty corner variation in the 33rd minute, assisted by Nikki Pradhan's deflection.
Soon after, Japan responded with Hiramitsu Ai's equalizer in the 35th minute. However, the deadlock was resolved in the final quarter when Lalremsiami scored the winning goal in the 49th minute. With this victory, India topped Pool A and will face Uruguay next.
