Kershaw has shoulder inflammation, won't need MRI
Los Angeles Dodgers ace Clayton Kershaw has inflammation in his throwing shoulder but will not need an MRI exam. That's according to manager Dave Roberts, who told reporters Sunday that the left-handed Kershaw is treating his ailment through anti-inflammatory medicines.
This is the first time the Dodgers have given a reason why the lefty was taking time away from throwing off the mound this spring training. Roberts reiterated on Sunday that Kershaw is expected to start throwing later this week and that he is on track to start Opening Day against Arizona on March 28.
"He's in a good place. He feels good," Roberts told reporters. "He understands that it's a process. We're all on the same page. We don't want to rush him back. If we're going to take a few days to take a step back, let's take advantage of it. In talking to him, he's encouraged." Kerhaw, who turns 31 next month, is entering his 12th MLB season, all with the Dodgers. He has a lifetime mark of 153-69 with an ERA of 2.39. He has struck out 2,275 batters in 2,096 1/3 innings. He is a three-time NL Cy Young Award winner.
