Samiya, Gayatri enter 3rd round at Dutch Junior International

Indian shuttlers Samiya Imad Farooqui and Gayatri Gopichand notched up contrasting wins to enter the girl's singles third round of the Dutch Junior International in Haarlem, Netherlands. Samiya, a 2017 Asian Junior Championships U-15 gold medallist, was impressive in her 21-17, 21-14 demolition of Lin Tzu-Yun, while Gayatri had to work hard to earn an 18-21, 21-15, 21-9 victory over Denmark's Laura Floj Thomsen.

12th seed Smit Toshniwal from Nashik also progressed to the next round after dismissing Nadia Choukri 21-15, 21-17 in 28 minutes. Treesa Jolly, hailing from Kerala, overcame Gauri Shidhaye 18-21, 21-9, 21-10 in her second round clash but 15th seed Amolika Singh Sisodiya bite the dust losing 11-21, 21-9, 12-21 to China's Wu Yuhan.

In boys' singles, in-form Maisnam Meiraba Luwang of Manipur continued his sizzling run with a commanding 21-14, 21-9 victory over Robin Mesman. Joining him in the Round of 32 were Andhra Pradesh boy Sai Charan Koya and Madhya Pradesh shuttler Priyanshu Rajawat.

While Koya prevailed 21-19, 22-20 over Philip Kidmose, Rajawat beat Vincent Ziegler 21-18, 21-18. In mixed doubles, Edwin Joy and Nafeesah Sara Siraj were shown the door 16-21, 14-21 by the Thai pair of Sirawit Sothon and Pornnicha Suwatnodom.

Even though India's challenge has ended in mixed doubles with this loss, Indian pairs are still alive in both boys' doubles and girls' doubles and they will be in action on Friday.
