Nationals' Taylor to undergo MRI after dramatic diving during game

A day after landing on his left knee and hip while making a diving catch, Washington Nationals outfielder Michael A. Taylor was headed for an MRI exam. Taylor was reportedly limping through the Nationals' clubhouse Friday morning, although manager Dave Martinez said the MRI was more of a precaution.

"I can't assume anything until we get the MRI back, but I hope it's just a few days and he's back playing again," Martinez told reporters Friday morning. Washington is short on outfield depth, with Bryce Harper departing as a free agent and signing with the Philadelphia Phillies. The Nationals have veteran Adam Eaton, who has a history of nagging injuries, as well as Juan Soto and Victor Robles. Taylor is expected to fit into that mix.

Matt Adams, Wilmer Difo and Howie Kendrick could also pick up some time in the outfield, if necessary. Taylor, 27, batted just .227 with six home runs in 134 games last season, a year after he batted .271 with 19 home runs in 118 games. He is a career .239 hitter over parts of five seasons with the Nationals, including 47 home runs with 165 RBIs in 483 career games.
