Gangjee finishes tied-32 in Japan
Indian golfer Rahil Gangjee carded one-under 71 to finish tied-32 at the Gateway to The Open Mizuno Open on Sunday. Gangjee, who was lying tied-44, improved on his overnight position with two birdies and an eagle against three bogeys at the Royal Open Golf Club, which played to a incredible distance of over 8,000 yards.
Starting from the 10th, Gangjee bogeyed 10th, 16th and 18th but also had a superb eagle on par-5 13th hole, where he was 2-on and one-putted. After turning in one-over 37, he birdied third and fourth and parred rest of the stretch to finish at 71. Yuta Ikeda, who started out as the solo leader for the Final Round, shot 1-under 71 and grabbed his 21st victory on the Japan Tour. He also earned a ticket to The Open in July.
Yuta had opened a three-shot lead over Chan Kim with two holes to go. But, as Yuta bogeyed 17th, Kim birdied the same to narrow the gap to one. Both parred the 18th, as Yuta found the green in two hitting his second shot 156 yards and two-putted for par. Kim also parred giving Yuta a one-shot win. This Mizuno Open plays as the qualifier for this year's The Open. The Top-4 finishers not otherwise qualified get to the Major.
With this, Yuta gained the ticket to his eight appearance at the British Open and it will be his fifth years in a row. Other than Yuta Ikeda, Chan Kim, Sang-Hyun Park and Gunn Charoenkul received the tickets to 148th The Open in July at Royal Portrush Golf Club in Northern Ireland.
