Oakland Athletics third baseman Matt Chapman was selected Sunday as a Home Run Derby replacement for Milwaukee Brewers outfielder Christian Yelich. Chapman, 26, entered Sunday's game at Seattle with a team-high 21 home runs and 52 RBIs.

The first-time All-Star chose his father, Jim, to be his pitcher for Monday's competition in Cleveland. "I'm excited," Chapman said. "I knew I was on a list of people they could call if someone dropped out. It will be a fun time. It's something I've always dreamed of doing."

Yelich, who leads the majors with 31 home runs, will not participate in the contest due to a back injury, according to the MLB Twitter account. Yelich was held of Milwaukee's starting lineup Sunday against Pittsburgh to get some rest. There was no word on whether he will compete in Tuesday's All-Star Game.
