Cincinnati Bengals wide receiver A.J. Green is not expected to return to the field anytime soon, according to a published report Monday. Green, who is recovering from preseason ankle surgery, has been running and participating in workouts since shedding his protective boot.

While progress has been made in that regard, ESPN's Adam Schefter reported on Monday morning that the Pro Bowl wideout is not expected to be ready for the Bengals' next three games. Winless Cincinnati (0-3) visits the Pittsburgh Steelers later on Monday before hosting Arizona and visiting Baltimore over the following two weeks. Should the Bengals' results be less-than-favorable, Green might not be inclined to rush his return with free agency awaiting this offseason.

"I take it week-to-week with him. He's making the progress that we anticipated him making. There hasn't been any setbacks," Cincinnati coach Zac Taylor said. "He's making steady progress." Green recorded season-lows in receptions (46) and receiving yards (694) last season after sitting out the last seven games with a toe injury.

The 31-year-old Green has collected 602 receptions for 8,907 yards and 63 touchdowns in 111 games since the Bengals selected him fourth overall in the 2011 NFL Draft. -- Field Level Media
