Goaltender Jacob Markstrom will be away from the Vancouver Canucks until later this week, general manager Jim Benning said on Monday. "Jacob Markstrom has been granted a leave of absence to attend to a family matter and is expected to rejoin the Canucks on the road this weekend. Respectfully, we will not offer any further comment," Benning said in a statement posted to the team's Twitter account.

The 29-year-old Markstrom is 2-2-0 with a 2.23 goals-against average and .926 save percentage on the season. The Swede is in his seventh season in Vancouver. The Canucks are expected to start Thatcher Demko in goal when they host the Detroit Red Wings Tuesday night. Vancouver begins a four-game road trip on Thursday in St. Louis.

Vancouver also recalled Zane McIntyre from Utica of the American Hockey League.
