The Chicago Blackhawks traded forward Brendan Perlini to the Detroit Red Wings in exchange for defenseman Alec Regula on Monday. Perlini, 23, scored 12 goals in 46 games with the Blackhawks last season but cracked the lineup only once this season. He and his agent recently asked for a trade when it became apparent that he would continue to serve as a healthy scratch.

Chicago granted his request and picked up Regula, a 19-year-old who was the Red Wings' third-round pick in 2018. Regula has 11 points (four goals, seven assists) in 10 games for the London Knights of the Ontario Hockey League this season and will remain with that club following the deal. Perlini will look to revive his career in Detroit. He has appeared in 200 career games with the Arizona Coyotes and the Blackhawks, tallying 45 goals and 27 assists.
