Right-handed relief pitcher Sergio Romo has agreed to a one-year contract to return to the Minnesota Twins, according to multiple media reports on Monday. The new deal is for $5 million and includes a team option for 2021, which would bring the total value of the contract to $10 million, according to The Athletic.

Romo, who made $2.5 million last season, went 0-1 with a 3.18 ERA and three saves in 27 regular-season games for the Twins in 2019. He pitched two innings in two playoff games. Romo, 36, was acquired by the Twins from the Miami Marlins at the July trade deadline for minor league first baseman Lewin Diaz. He compiled a 2-0 record with a 3.58 ERA and 17 saves for the Marlins last season, serving as their closer during the first half of the campaign.

He started his major league career in 2008 with the San Francisco Giants, where he was a member of three world championship teams (2010, 2012, 2014) in nine seasons there before moving on to the Los Angeles Dodgers (2017) and Tampa Bay Rays (2017-18). In 2013 with the Giants, Romo was a member of the National League All-Star team and earned a career-high 38 saves. In 708 career appearances, Romo has a 40-32 record with a 2.92 ERA and 129 saves.
