Cincinnati Reds rookie outfielder Jesse Winker was placed on the 10-day disabled list Thursday and will require season-ending surgery on his right shoulder, the team announced.

Winker aggravated his shoulder during Monday's contest against the St. Louis Cardinals when he dove while running the bases to avoid being hit by a ball struck by teammate Tucker Barnhart.

Winker, 24, batted .299 with seven homers and 43 RBIs in 89 games this season. He had a stellar .405 on-base percentage.

"He'll be ready for spring training next year," Reds president of baseball operations Dick Williams told reporters.

Winker batted .298 with seven homers and 15 RBIs in 47 games in 2017 in his first taste of the majors.

Cincinnati promoted outfielder Mason Williams from Triple-A Louisville in a corresponding move. Williams was batting .280 with six homers and 30 RBIs in 87 games at Louisville.

Infielder Alex Blandino (knee) was transferred to the 60-day disabled list to open up a 40-man roster spot for Williams. Blandino underwent reconstructive surgery earlier this week.
