Samsung's new technology expands bandwidth support for next-gen 5G radios

The new technology will allow Samsung to extend the bandwidth support of its 5G radios to 400MHz - double the 200MHz supported by its current commercial radios. It will help operators minimize the number of radios required when managing spectrum in various deployment scenarios including when an operator owns non-contiguous frequencies within 400MHz of bandwidth.

Samsung said Thursday it has developed a new 5G wideband radio technology that doubles bandwidth support of its mid-band portfolio, including Massive MIMO radios, helping operators minimize hardware needs and simplify 5G rollouts.

The new 5G wideband radio technology will allow Samsung to extend the bandwidth support of its 5G radios to 400MHz - double the 200MHz supported by its current commercial radios. It will help operators minimize the number of radios required when managing spectrum in various deployment scenarios including when an operator owns non-contiguous frequencies within 400MHz of bandwidth.

Besides, operators can use this solution for RAN sharing, where they actively share network infrastructures with other operators through joint deployments. Samsung's new radios will help accelerate operators' 5G rollouts in the mid-band spectrum.

"We are proud to develop new solutions that can help operators drive deployment efficiency by minimizing hardware changes and reducing installation costs, even as they expand their spectrum range," said Dong Geun Lee, Vice President and Head of H/W R&D Group, Networks Business at Samsung Electronics

The new technology development follows Samsung's recent announcement of the Mobility Enhancer, a new network technology powered by Samsung's AI and advanced signal processing technology that improves the beamforming performance of its Massive MIMO radios up to 30 percent in a mobile environment.

Samsung said its new wideband solutions, including Massive MIMO radios, will be commercially available in early next year.
