Google Search Generative Experience gets largest international expansion yet

Google is expanding generative AI in Search to more than 120 new countries and territories whilst adding support for four new languages including Spanish, Portuguese, Korean and Indonesian. In addition, the tech giant is introducing a few upgrades to make SGE more interactive including easier follow-ups, AI-powered translation help, and more definitions for topics like coding.

With this expansion, Search Labs - a new way to test early-stage experiments on Search - and SGE will now be available in English in more than 120 new countries and territories around the world, including Mexico, Brazil, South Korea, Indonesia, Nigeria, Kenya and South Africa.

Search Labs is available on the Google app (Android and iOS) and on Chrome desktop. Once enrolled, simply enable the SGE experiment to get started.

Meanwhile, Google is experimenting with a new and easier way for you to ask follow-up questions directly from the search results page. As you continue to explore a topic, you can easily see your prior questions and search results, including Search ads in dedicated ad slots throughout the page. This feature will start rolling out over the coming weeks, starting first in English in the United States.

To add more context to your translations, Google Search will soon start rolling out an AI-powered translation capability. With this update, Search will underline terms that could have more than one possible meaning. Tap on any of these words to indicate the specific meaning that reflects what you want to say. This option may also appear when you need to specify the gender for a particular word, Google said. This capability will initially be available in the United States for English-to-Spanish translations, with more countries and languages to be covered in the near future.

Lastly, Google is also extending the definition functionality that lets you hover over certain words to preview definitions and see related diagrams or images on the topic to more areas, including coding and health information. This capability will be available in English in the United States, with more countries and languages expected to be added soon.
