Pixxel Space: Mapping Space Beyond Earth

Bengaluru-based startup Pixxel Space is preparing to launch its constellation of Earth observation satellites with ambitious plans to extend its capabilities to map the Moon and asteroids. CEO Awais Ahmed outlined the startup's long-term vision during an interaction with PTI editors at the agency's headquarters.

Ahmed elaborated on the company's future goals, which include using hyper-spectral cameras to explore asteroids for valuable materials and potential fuel sources for space settlements. The startup is also keen on placing satellites in cis-lunar orbits for detailed exploration of the Moon.

The initiative aims to identify asteroids with precious materials, possibly split ice into hydrogen and oxygen for fuel, and store it as water, providing resources for space expansion. Pixxel Space plans to launch six hyper-spectral satellites this year, with another 18 slated for next year, completing their constellation in low Earth orbit.
