Google Maps Unveils New Features Amid Rivalry with Ola Maps

In response to rising competition from Ola Maps, Google Maps on Thursday unveiled a series of new features tailored for Indian users. These features include EV charging station information, flyover callouts, and AI-driven routing capabilities designed to reduce the use of narrow roads by four-wheelers.

Google Maps highlighted the importance of the Indian market, emphasizing its commitment to developing advanced mapping solutions in the region. This announcement comes shortly after Google decided to cut the pricing of its Maps platform for developers by up to 70%, following a public call by Ola CEO Bhavish Aggarwal for Indian developers to abandon Google Maps in favor of Ola Maps.

Google Maps' new offerings also include metro ticket bookings in Kochi and Chennai, collaboration with ONDC and Namma Yatri, and enhanced features for reporting road incidents and traffic mishaps. These updates are initially rolling out on Android devices in multiple cities and will soon be available on iOS.
