Paris Hotels Slash Prices Amid Olympic Games

With the Paris Olympics in full swing, hotel operators are reducing prices and eliminating minimum stay requirements after anticipated high demand fell short. The Paris Tourist Office reports a drop in average hotel prices, with visitors finding discounts due to decreased occupancy and security concerns.

As the Olympic Games unfold in Paris, hotel operators are making a concerted effort to attract last-minute travelers by cutting prices and removing minimum stay requirements. Previously perceived as price-gouging, this shift comes after some potential visitors decided to forgo the trip due to steep costs.

According to the Paris Tourist Office, average hotel prices during the Olympics have decreased to 258 euros per night from a peak of 342 euros earlier in the summer. Travel agents report that visitors might secure discounts ranging from 10% to 70%, driven by lower-than-expected demand and security concerns.

KAYAK's hotel price analysis indicates a 16% drop in July compared to June, while Hotel Planner observes a decline of up to 66% for four-star hotels. "The hospitality industry has learned a crucial lesson against price-gouging during major events," noted Tim Hentschel, CEO of Hotel Planner. Despite adjustments, luxury hotels still command high prices.
