Ride-sharing giant Uber and Chinese automaker BYD have announced a groundbreaking partnership to introduce 100,000 BYD electric vehicles (EVs) on the Uber platform across Europe and Latin America, with future expansion into other markets.

The collaboration aims to offer Uber drivers favorable pricing, insurance, and financing for BYD vehicles. The companies believe this will accelerate the switch to EVs and potentially include autonomous-capable EVs in the future.

BYD, China’s largest EV maker, has been expanding rapidly since switching entirely to EV and hybrid production in 2022. Meanwhile, the European Union imposed provisional duties on Chinese EVs, citing unfair advantages from government subsidies. However, production is moving overseas with new BYD plants in Thailand, Brazil, Hungary, and Turkey.
