Xiaomi Tops Samsung in India's 2024 Smartphone Market
Xiaomi has overtaken Samsung to lead the Indian smartphone market with a 19.3% volume share in Q2 2024, according to CyberMedia Research. Despite a slight overall market decline, 5G smartphone shipments rose significantly. Vivo led the 5G segment, and affordable 5G options propelled market growth.
Chinese smartphone maker Xiaomi has surpassed Samsung, capturing a 19.3 percent share of the Indian smartphone market in the second quarter of 2024, according to a report released on Tuesday.
The CyberMedia Research India Mobile Handset Market Review for April-June revealed that the overall smartphone market declined by 4 percent. Despite this, the share of 5G smartphone shipments increased to 79 percent, showing a 56 percent year-on-year growth.
Vivo led the 5G segment with a 21 percent market share, followed closely by Samsung at 20 percent. The availability of affordable 5G smartphones, priced between Rs 10,000 to 13,000, significantly drove market growth, along with the premium segment experiencing a 9 percent growth year-on-year.
