Tragic Air Strike Outside Kyiv: Father and Son Killed by North Korean Missile
A Russian air strike on Kyiv's outskirts killed a 4-year-old boy and his 35-year-old father, with three more injured, including a teenager. The attack involved a North Korean-made missile. President Zelenskiy calls for enhanced air defenses and permission for strikes within Russia using Western-provided arms.
A tragic overnight Russian air strike outside of Kyiv has resulted in the deaths of a 4-year-old boy and his 35-year-old father, Ukrainian officials reported on Sunday. Three others, including a teenage boy, were wounded in the attack east of the capital. President Volodymyr Zelenskiy stated that the strike involved a North Korean-made missile.
Ukrainian emergency services indicated that the victims’ home in the Brovary district was hit by debris from a downed missile. Footage from Ukraine's State Emergency Service depicted workers digging through rubble in the dark and retrieving a child's body.
Zelenskiy, on social media platform X, labeled the assault as a terrorist strike, adding that experts are still analyzing the missile. The overnight offensive also saw 57 Iranian-made drones launched across Ukraine, with Kyiv's air force successfully downing 53 of them.
Russia had reportedly fired four North Korean-made KN-23 missiles, though the fate of the other three remains unknown. Requests for independent verification are ongoing. In a statement, Zelenskiy urged for a comprehensive air defense shield and the authorization for deep strikes inside Russia with Western arms. Moscow, which denies targeting civilians, has yet to comment.
