Netherlands Boosts Defence Budget by Over 10% Amid Strategic Rebuild

The Netherlands is set to ramp up its defence budget by more than 10% in the coming years, as announced by the Dutch government. The significant investment will fund the acquisition of new tanks, fighter jets, frigates, and air defence systems, marking an end to years of austerity measures.

The increase will see an additional 2.4 billion euros ($2.7 billion) allocated to defence spending, raising the annual budget to approximately 24 billion euros. The announcement was made on Thursday, signaling a commitment to reinforcing the nation's military capabilities.

This budgetary boost ensures that Dutch defence spending will align with NATO's target of 2% of gross domestic product (GDP) for the first time since the agreement was set a decade ago. The exchange rate stands at $1 equals 0.9011 euros.
