U.S. economic growth witnessed significant acceleration in the second quarter, achieving an annualized rate of 3.0%, as robust consumer spending fueled the economy, confirmed the Commerce Department's Bureau of Economic Analysis on Thursday.
Economists had accurately forecasted this consistent 3.0% growth rate, as the third estimate for second-quarter GDP was largely unchanged. The first-quarter growth was also revised, showing a rise to 1.6% from the initially reported 1.4% rate.
The revised data, spanning from early 2019 to the first quarter of 2024, highlighted stronger-than-expected economic growth and corporate profits in 2023. The gap between GDP and gross domestic income (GDI) narrowed, with GDI rising at 3.4% in the last quarter, revised from 1.3%, suggesting a return to healthier economic conditions.
