Saab and HAL Partner for Advanced Laser Defense Technology

Saab signs a deal with Hindustan Aeronautics Limited to co-develop a laser warning system. The agreement strengthens Saab's commitment to indigenizing defense production while enhancing threat response for combat vehicles.

Saab, a premier name in defense and security, has inked an agreement with India's Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL) for the development of a cutting-edge laser warning system, the company announced.

The collaboration expands on a longstanding partnership between Saab in South Africa and HAL, dating back to 2005 during the Advanced Light Helicopter initiative, according to Saab's statement.

The Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) pertains to the joint development of the Electronic Warfare land Laser Warning System-310 (LWS-310) and includes plans for Maintenance Transfer of Technology. This will empower HAL to manufacture the LWS-310 domestically, aligning with the Indian Defence Procurement Procedure.

Critical aspects of the collaboration will see the establishment of essential infrastructure, comprehensive training programs, and a transfer of technical expertise from Saab to HAL, ensuring sustained support and development of the system.

Establishing Saab's dedication to localization, the agreement further promises enduring support and security for the Indian armed forces, Saab India chief Mats Palmberg highlighted.

The LWS-310 system promises rapid threat response, enhancing combat vehicle situational awareness and self-protection against laser threats, offering a strategic advantage.
