On Monday, the social media platform X faced intermittent outages, with its owner Elon Musk suggesting that an unusually powerful cyberattack was the cause. Musk speculated that the attack might have been launched by a large, coordinated group or even a nation.

Despite Musk's assertions, cybersecurity experts questioned his explanation, highlighting that denial of service attacks can be carried out by small groups or individuals with limited resources. At its peak, the outage prevented 39,021 U.S. users from accessing the platform.

While Musk hinted at Ukraine as the attack's origin, an industry insider claimed the rogue traffic came mostly from countries like the U.S., Vietnam, and Brazil. Tracing the true source of such attacks remains challenging, leaving the perpetrators unknown.
