Orange Telecom Launches Defence and Security Division Amid Rising European Budgets

Orange, a French telecom operator, is launching a new defence and homeland security division within Orange Business. This move aims to offer connectivity solutions, AI, and cybersecurity services tailored to defence ministries and security operators across Europe amidst increasing European defence budgets and a push for home-grown solutions.

French telecom giant Orange is positioning itself at the forefront of the defence and security sector with the launch of a dedicated division. This new branch under Orange Business will deliver advanced connectivity solutions, artificial intelligence, and cybersecurity services to Europe's defence ministries and security operators.

The strategic move comes amid Europe's efforts to strengthen its own defence capabilities, reducing reliance on U.S. technology. This shift is driven by increasing budgets across the continent, with NATO members committing to a defence spending target of 5% of GDP by 2035.

Orange's efforts are aligned with France's initiatives to secure communication networks, exemplified by its investment in satellite operator Eutelsat. Concurrently, telecoms player Finland's Nokia is also venturing into defence, collaborating on tactical networks with Germany's armed forces.
