The demand for electric vehicle (EV) batteries in India is set to experience unprecedented growth, with projections indicating an increase from 17.7 GWh in 2025 to an impressive 256.3 GWh by 2032, according to the latest report by Customized Energy Solutions (CES).
This surge is attributed to India’s electrification efforts, driven by rising fuel prices, consumer demand, and supportive policies. The CES report highlights a projected compound annual growth rate of 35% over the next seven years, marking a significant transformation in the automotive sector.
Technologies such as LFP Gen 4 and sodium-ion batteries are central to this revolution, enhancing affordability, safety, and range, as stated by Vinayak Walimbe, Managing Director of CES. However, challenges like supply chain dependencies and high capital costs need addressing to realize India's battery manufacturing goals.
