South Korea and Indonesia Forge Stronger Ties Amid Global Turmoil

South Korea and Indonesia are enhancing collaboration in defense, technology, and supply chains. Presidents Lee Jae Myung and Prabowo Subianto committed to deepen their strategic partnership to tackle uncertainties from Middle Eastern conflicts, focusing on joint defense projects and energy supply stability.

In a strategic meeting on Wednesday, South Korea and Indonesia agreed to bolster their cooperation in defense industries, technology, and supply chains. This decision comes as part of efforts to strengthen their partnership amid geopolitical uncertainties arising from the Middle East conflict.

Following a summit in Seoul, President Lee Jae Myung of South Korea and President Prabowo Subianto of Indonesia issued a joint statement committing to increased economic collaboration and the continuation of joint defense projects. These projects include the development of fighter jets, trainer aircraft, and anti-tank missile systems.

Furthermore, the countries will enhance their cooperation on supply chains for critical energy and mineral resources. South Korean firms will receive a substantial supply of 820,000 tons of liquefied natural gas from Indonesia, crucial for energy stability amidst global disruptions. The joint development of the KF-21 supersonic fighter demonstrates the success of this partnership, with South Korea planning to export 16 units to Indonesia.
