Global Cyber Defence Imperative: Combatting Covert Networks

International cyber agencies, including Britain's NCSC, issued guidance to combat China-linked hackers using covert networks. These networks leverage vulnerable devices to target global sectors and steal data. The advisory follows growing incidents linked to nation states, urging collaboration with AI firms for bolstering cyber-defences.

International cyber agencies have urged organizations to bolster defenses against covert networks, primarily utilized by China-linked hackers, to hide malicious activities, according to Britain's National Cyber Security Centre (NCSC).

The NCSC released new guidance alongside industry partners and 15 international partners from eight countries, warning about networks composed of compromised everyday internet-connected devices such as routers and smart gadgets. These networks are used globally to target crucial sectors, exfiltrate sensitive data, and maintain access.

NCSC's director of operations, Paul Chichester, highlighted a recent trend of Chinese cyber groups using such networks to evade accountability. Concurrently, Britain is calling for AI firms' assistance to harness AI in developing robust cyber-defense solutions amidst increasing state-linked cyber threats.
