Amid a concerning rise in fire emergencies in Delhi, the Delhi Fire Services (DFS) is preparing to implement a technology-led overhaul. This includes establishing a central command center equipped with Artificial Intelligence (AI), GPS, and GIS systems, aiming to streamline operations despite existing constraints.
The department is currently struggling with outdated infrastructure and a significant manpower shortage, having only 2,459 operational staff against the recommended 24,000. The tech upgrades are set to reduce reliance on manual processes, enhance real-time tracking, and provide optimized routing for fire tenders.
The DFS is also expanding its fleet with additional vehicles and improving communication by acquiring new wireless sets. The proposed developments coincide with plans to expand the network of fire stations and increase personnel to effectively manage the surge in emergencies.
