Sunil Bharti Mittal Reappointed as Airtel Chairman
Bharti Airtel has reappointed its founder Sunil Bharti Mittal as chairman for another five years, extending his term until September 2031. The board also approved the reappointment of Nisaba Godrej as an independent director for a five-year term starting August 2026.
Bharti Airtel has announced the reappointment of its founder, Sunil Bharti Mittal, as chairman of the board for an additional five-year term. The decision was confirmed in a company filing released on Wednesday. Mittal's current tenure was set to expire on September 30 of this year.
The reappointment, recommended by the HR & Nomination Committee and approved by the Board of Directors, will extend his term from October 1, 2026, to September 30, 2031. Sunil Bharti Mittal established the Bharti Group in 1976, which has since expanded into various sectors such as telecom, space communications, digital infrastructure, and financial services.
Additionally, the board also sanctioned the reappointment of Nisaba Godrej as an independent director for a second five-year term, commencing on August 4, 2026, and concluding on August 3, 2031, pending member approval.
