Ethiopian Mozambique Airlines, a start-up carrier established in partnership with Ethiopian Airlines, started flights on December 1, 2018. The new airline will serve 8 domestic points in Mozambique including the capital Maputo, Nampula, Tete, Pemba, Beira, Nacala, Quelimane and Chimoio.

The launch of the carrier in partnership with Ethiopian Airlines will avail much needed and better air connectivity within Mozambique and to and from Mozambique, thereby boosting the share of indigenous African carriers in the continent’s air transport market.

Regarding the launch of services, Tewolde Gebremariam, GCEO of Ethiopian Airlines Group, said: “The launch of Ethiopian Mozambique Airlines is part of our Vision 2025 multiple hub strategies in Africa of boosting air connectivity in our vast continent to support its socio-economic transformation. Thanks to Ethiopian Mozambique flights, the travelling public in Mozambique, Government officials, tourists, investors and business people will enjoy safe, secured much reliable, affordable and convenient air connectivity, Centre for Aviation noted.

Ethiopian is making huge investments in launching this startup African airline but is confident that with a market-driven and customer focused approach Ethiopian Mozambique will succeed in its objectives and take its rightful place in the continent’s aviation landscape with the strong support of the Group.

In the 21st century when regions across the globe are forging strong cooperation to leverage their resources and win in the global marketplace, Africans have to deepen their integration by developing cross-border trade, tourism and investments that enable the continent to retain its fair market share. Ethiopian Mozambique is one such example where Africans are coming together to establish an airline that will support economic development and enable the continent to gain better market share of travel to, from and within Africa that is currently heavily dominated by non-Africans carriers. I wish to thank the Government of Mozambique for its visionary decision and policy that have enabled the start of Ethiopian Mozambique.

Ethiopian Mozambique Airlines CEO, Mr Redi Yesuf said, “We are very happy to launch Ethiopian Mozambique, The New Spirit of Mozambique. The flights will enable improved air connectivity to more than a dozen cities in Mozambique. We will gradually three hubs in the north, southern and central Mozambique thereby offering unmatched connectivity to the travelling public. Ethiopian Mozambique will create direct and indirect jobs to many Mozambicans and support the country’s socio-economic transformation. Mozambique is geographically a very long country and deserves strong flight connectivity options as an alternative to surface transportation. I wish to thank all my colleagues from Ethiopian Mozambique for all their efforts and hard work that have this day possible.”

Apart from helping to establish Ethiopian Mozambique Airlines, Ethiopian Airlines Group has created different hubs across the. continent thru strategic partnerships with other carriers. Currently, Ethiopian operates hubs in Lomé (Togo) with ASKY Airlines, Malawian in Lilongwe (Malawi), Tchadia in N’djamena (Tchad) and Ceiba in Malabo (Equatorial Guinea).
