250 medical specialists vaccinated in Prague due to measles

More than 250 medical specialists have recently been inoculated in Prague for the incidence of measles cases. Another hundred vaccinees are waiting for vaccination. Last year, there were 146 in the Republic for the whole year and only units in 2015 and 2016. In Prague, a part of the hospital's emergency hospital reception had to be closed recently due to measles.

Since the beginning of February, Prague's hygienists have been continuously investigating nearly two thousand healthcare professionals to see if they have enough antibodies against measles.

First of all, the medical staff who came into contact with infected measles, and then those who might come in contact with the infected patients, came in first. In 254 healthcare professionals, the test revealed missing antibodies or their low levels. Subsequently, they were extremely inoculated.

Hygienists are now preparing another vaccination. "Most likely, on 3 May, this extraordinary vaccination will be announced to all employees of central hospitals in Prague," Jan Jarolímek, the head of Prague's sanitation, said. The vaccine will again be given to those who will lack the antibodies. According to estimates, Jarolímka will be three to four hundred people.

In addition to vaccinations and other measures, hygienists, for example, informed paediatricians in Prague both in writing and on the telephone to take more measles in the examinations. Beginning measles may be similar to other diseases. Several dozens of paediatrician doctors also underwent extraordinary vaccinations, as well as two employees of the sanitary station itself.

There were over 100 cases of measles in the Czech Republic by Friday. Most in Prague (70) and Central Bohemia (13), in most other regions, the maximum number of cases. The Security Council of the Central Bohemian Region on Monday advised all rescue workers and regional hospitals to vaccinate against measles. The number of measles cases this year is rising across Europe.

The week before, due to the contact with the measles staff, was a temporary part of the emergency reception of the Faculty Hospital Motol. Closed is to be next weekend. The medical rescue service, therefore, carries patients to other hospitals. As of 4 May, the military has promised the rescue service and the army.

Measles begins similarly to colds with fever, cough, rhinitis, light-eyelid and red-eye conjunctivitis. Oral whitish streaks appear in the mouth, after a few days a red rash that starts at the back of the neck and spreads to the face, abdomen, and limbs.

Vaccination against measles is mandatory in the Czech Republic and has been vaccinated in the Czech Republic since 1969. However, immunity resulting from vaccination may gradually fade after 30 to 40 years.
