Film Federation of India to host Global Cinema Festival in Siliguri

The Film Federation of India, an apex body of film producers and distributors, will organise a 'Global Cinema Festival 2019' from August 21-25 in Siliguri. To give people of North Bengal and Hills a glimpse of the recent changes in world and Indian cinema, the festival will screen 36 feature and 24 short films, under both National and International categories, Film Federation of India president Firdausul Hasan said here on Sunday.

The films will be screened in in three auditoriums, - Dinabandhu Mancha, Rabindra Bhavan, New Cinema in Siliguri, he said. "We have decided that we will be bringing Global Cinema Festival to tier 2 and tier 3 cities across India so that the people from these towns and cities can also be a part of such international film festivals and get a chance to watch quality movies coming from across the globe," Hasan told PTI.

The festival will also promote Siliguri as a film tourism destination as it is surrounded by picturesque places in hills and plains, he said adding the participants and delegates will be taken to various destinations during the festival which is being supported by West Bengal tourism department. The films that would be shown, both full length and shorts, have been carefully curated to cater to all cross-section of people.

Italian film Di Tutti I Colori, A Thousand Pieces from France, The Song of Sway Lake in English, Sui Dhaga in Hindi, Satta from Bangladesh, Thackeray in Marathi, Nepalese film Bulbul, Sangharsh in Bhojpuri besides Ahaa Re and Jeyshthoputro in Bengali will be screened in the festival. Tollywood diva Rituparna Sengupta will be the face of the festival.

The FFI is a 65-year old organisation working to promote the cinema industry in the country.
