Sugar drops on reduced demand

Prices of both varieties of sugar dropped at the Vashi wholesale market here today following reduced demand from stockists, retailers and bulk consumers amid ample arrivals.

Small sugar prices weakened by Rs 4/7 to Rs 3,176/3,285 per quintal from Tuesday's closing level of Rs 3,180/3,292.

Medium sugar also fell by Rs 34/7 to Rs 3,252/3,485 per quintal as compared to Rs 3,286/3,492 previously.

Following are today's closing rates for sugar (per quintal) with the previous rates given in brackets:

Small sugar (S-30) quality: Rs 3,176/3,285 (Rs 3,180/3,292).

Medium sugar (M-30) quality: Rs 3,252/3,485 (Rs 3,286/3,492).
