Coal India witnessed 10 per cent growth in dry fuel supply to thermal power plants in the first half (April-September) of the current fiscal over the comparable period of 2017-18, a company statement said here on Tuesday.
Coal India supplied 232.21 million tonnes of coal to the thermal power plants (TPPs) of the country during the first half of the current fiscal. This is 21.11 million tonnes more coal than what had been supplied to TPPs during the same period last fiscal.
Monsoon and deluge in mines were major hurdles for the miner in the Q2 period to maintain the high double-digit growth in production, the statement said.
CIL had registered a 15.2 per cent growth in coal production during the Q1 to 136.87 million tonnes.
"Despite the monsoon impeding our production and coal offtake in the second quarter of the fiscal, we have been able to register a growth of 5.8 per cent and 4.5 per cent respectively in both these performance parameters during July-September 2018," the miner said.
Coal production during July-September 2018 was 119.62 million tonne, an increase of 6.58 million tonnes in absolute terms compared to 113.04 million tonnes produced in the similar quarter last year registering a growth of 5.8 per cent.
Coal off-take during Q2 of the current fiscal at 137.34 million tonnes was up by 5.76 million tonnes compared to 131.58 million tonnes the same quarter last year.
The growth is 4.4 per cent, the statement said. The miner said the average rake loading per day from sources of the coal behemoth to power sector was at 202 rakes growing by 9.6 per cent during April-September of the current fiscal compared to 184.3 rakes for similar period a year ago.
The increased loading in absolute terms is 17.7 rakes a day, it said.
