Mumbai: Bus runs over BEST driver inside depot

A 55-year-old driver employed with the Brihanmumbai Electric Supply and Transport (BEST) Ltd was run over by a bus inside a depot here, an official said on Friday.

The incident took place in Kala Killa-Dharavi bus depot on Wednesday, when the driver posted on CNG fuelling duty was hit by an electric bus coming out of the washing shed, he said.

The victim sustained serious injuries and was declared dead by the doctor in an ambulance, he said.

A contractual driver was operating the e-bus hired on a wet lease model in the BEST's fleet, the official said.

Angered by the incident, labour unions in transport body have demanded immediate disbursement of the deceased driver's dues, including insurance and provident fund, and demanded a job for the victim's nearest kin.
