President Yoon Suk Yeol of South Korea has announced a significant expansion of development aid to Africa as well as deeper cooperation in critical minerals and technology. This announcement came as Yoon hosted the Korea-Africa Summit in Seoul on Tuesday, meeting with dozens of African leaders to discuss the future of their bilateral ties.

During his speech at the summit, Yoon urged African nations to take stronger actions in exerting international pressure on North Korea. Highlighting North Korea's recent escalatory actions, which include nuclear tests and provocative acts against South Korea, Yoon emphasized the importance of a united front against the North.

Representatives from 48 African countries, including 25 heads of state, attended the two-day summit, focusing on trade, investment, and the need for stronger cooperation over minerals critical to technology industries. Yoon's address highlighted plans to increase development aid to Africa to around USD 10 billion by 2030 and to provide USD 14 billion in export financing to boost investments in the region.
