In a significant move to support low-income families, Haryana Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini on Friday distributed cards under the Haryana Antyodaya Parivar Parivahan Yojana (HAPPY) scheme.

Launched at a state-level event in Karnal, the initiative aims to provide families earning less than Rs 1 lakh annually with 1,000 km of free travel on state transport buses each year. Over 85 lakh people are set to benefit from this scheme, with 59,708 already receiving their cards.

The government has allocated Rs 600 crore to support the program, which also features smart cards linked to an e-ticketing system. Transport Minister Aseem Goel hailed the scheme as a first in the country, while efforts to expand the bus fleet were also announced.
