The inaugural shipment of 150 tonnes of perishable food from India has reached the port at Addu, promising to reduce import costs and complexity for the southern atolls of the Maldives.
The Indian ship, carrying fresh fruits, vegetables, onions, garlic, and eggs, sailed from Tuticorin Port and arrived at Addu's Hithadhoo Port, marking a new direct shipping route.
Maldives Ports Limited (MPL) launched the direct shipping route, enhancing the efficiency and reliability of food imports. This service, managed by Kerala-based Finesse Group, aims to provide continuous fresh food supply to Addu residents and is seen as a landmark development in local logistics.
