Near Miss at Khardaha: SUV Collides with Slowing Express Train

An SUV crashed into a decelerating express train near Khardaha station in West Bengal on Sunday night, an Eastern Railway spokesperson confirmed. The Hazarduari Express was moving at a reduced speed, mitigating what could have been a catastrophic accident, as the SUV had no passengers and the driver sustained no significant injuries.

The incident occurred when the SUV driver ignored the gateman's warnings to stop as he was closing the level crossing gate. The vehicle collided with the side of the approaching train's engine at around 8.40 pm. The driver subsequently abandoned his car and fled the scene. Eastern Railway has lodged an FIR against him and requested the state police to take legal action.

Initial reports indicate no serious injuries to the absconding driver. The express left Khardaha station at 9.02 pm. Eastern Railway has issued a public appeal to adhere to safety protocols at level crossings.
