Coal India Ventures into Graphite Mining in Madhya Pradesh

Coal India Limited (CIL) diversifies into graphite mining, following a Ministry of Mines' order granting a composite license for the Khattali Chhoti Graphite Block in Madhya Pradesh. The project aligns with the government's Atmanirbharta vision and supports the ongoing EV revolution in India.

Coal India Limited (CIL) is set to diversify beyond coal by securing its first mineral license for graphite mining. The Ministry of Mines has granted CIL a composite license for prospecting and mining the Khattali Chhoti Graphite Block in Madhya Pradesh.

Debasish Nanda, Director of Business Development at Coal India, confirmed the milestone, labeling graphite as the first non-coal mineral for the company. CIL will pay a mining premium of 150.05 percent of the mineral's value to the state government.

The timeline stated is one year for granting the composite license, followed by a three-year period for executing the mining lease deed. CIL has formed a dedicated team focusing on critical minerals to align with the government's Atmanirbharta vision, eyeing the booming EV sector.
