The Economic Survey 2023-24 has forecasted a prudent growth rate of 6.5-7% for the current financial year, heavily contingent on the progress of the monsoon, according to Chief Economic Advisor V Anantha Nageswaran.
Following the survey's tabling in Parliament by Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman, Nageswaran addressed reporters, emphasizing that a 7% growth rate is achievable, provided monsoon rains are favorable.
"We aim to be prudent in our growth rate projection, which is why we've set it at 6.5 to 7% for FY24," he noted. Nageswaran highlighted the ongoing economic momentum, increased private capital expenditure, and a lower external debt ratio compared to other emerging economies. He also pointed out that inflationary pressures are under control, with core inflation well below 4% and stressed the need for India to create 80 lakh jobs annually. Nageswaran added that the production linked incentive (PLI) scheme is significantly boosting key sectors.
