Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami welcomed the Union Budget on Tuesday for extending financial assistance to the state, recognizing its vulnerability to natural disasters such as cloudbursts and landslides.
In the budget presentation at the Lok Sabha, Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman said, 'Uttarakhand too suffered losses due to cloudbursts and massive landslides. We will provide assistance to the state for that.' The state's recurring natural disasters result in significant damage to life and property annually.
Dhami expressed gratitude to the Prime Minister and Finance Minister through a post on X, thanking them for the special assistance package announced in the Union Budget 2024-25 to mitigate disaster impact in Uttarakhand.
Despite adverse geographical conditions, Uttarakhand continues to make developmental progress under Prime Minister Narendra Modi's leadership. The chief minister highlighted that the special package would ensure that natural disasters do not hinder the state's growth.
Additionally, Dhami praised the budget for unveiling three new employment-generation schemes targeting young people and measures aimed at boosting agricultural produce and doubling farmers' incomes.
