Revitalizing Jute: Indian Industry Applauds Union Budget Initiatives
The Union Budget has introduced key initiatives for the Indian jute industry, impacting economic activities, promoting sustainable practices, and supporting labor and innovation. Significant allocations for MSP, infrastructure development, export promotion, and corporate tax reductions are expected to benefit the sector, which supports millions in West Bengal.
The Indian jute industry, which has faced a decline in orders for foodgrain packaging, is set to benefit from the Union Budget's newly introduced initiatives aimed at promoting the sector.
Raghavendra Gupta, Chairman of the Indian Jute Mills Association (IJMA), expressed optimism over the increased allocation for the Minimum Support Price (MSP) scheme from Rs 500 crore to Rs 700 crore, which will ensure price stability and incentivize jute cultivation.
Moreover, a Rs 200 crore incentive fund for producing biodegradable and recyclable goods, including jute products, will encourage manufacturing advancements. Infrastructure development in key jute-growing regions, particularly West Bengal and Assam, received a Rs 1,000 crore allocation to improve logistics, boosting supply chain efficiency.
