Gautam Buddh Nagar Launches Major Road Safety Campaign

District Magistrate Manish Kumar Verma of Gautam Buddh Nagar initiated a comprehensive campaign to enforce traffic safety standards. The efforts, targeting unfit school vehicles and illegal stands, aim to reduce road accidents and fatalities. Key district officials are collaborating to expedite road repairs and penalize overloaded vehicles.

In a significant move to enhance road safety, District Magistrate Manish Kumar Verma of Gautam Buddh Nagar on Wednesday directed officials to launch a campaign against vehicles flouting safety standards, including unfit school vehicles.

The directive was issued during a meeting of the District Road Safety Committee at the collectorate auditorium, focusing on enforcing traffic rules to reduce accidents and fatalities.

Verma stressed the critical importance of road safety, stating, 'Road safety is an essential program to ensure maximum compliance with traffic rules among the general public. If all drivers adhere to traffic regulations 100 per cent, we can significantly reduce road accidents and fatalities.' He instructed the transport department officials to identify sites for bus, tempo, and taxi stands, and take action against illegal stands and encroachments.

Additionally, regular campaigns against illegal stands, parking, overspeeding, and overloading were mandated. Verma also directed the transport department to coordinate with the education department to ensure all school vehicles undergo fitness checks, preventing unfit school buses from operating. Public works officials were instructed to expedite the repair of damaged roads.

In response to concerns from the Noida Transport Union about overloaded vehicles, Verma ordered a week-long campaign to penalize and take strict action against such vehicles, forming a joint team to impose fines and ensure compliance. Key officials including DCP Traffic Yamuna Prasad, Chief Development Officer Janardan Singh, and others attended the meeting.
