The DMRC implemented major safety upgrades across five elevated stations on the Pink Line after a man was killed due to a wall collapse at Gokulpuri metro station, officials reported on Thursday.
A senior DMRC official revealed inspections led to the identification and replacement of concrete parapets with stainless steel railings at stations including Gokulpuri, Jafrabad, Welcome, East Azad Nagar, and Krishna Nagar.
''We have also installed rainwater down pipes and saucer drains to efficiently manage stormwater,'' the official stated. A technical fault led to the February 8 incident, which also injured four others. The DMRC has since initiated comprehensive safety checks throughout its network.
DMRC Managing Director Vikas Kumar emphasized, ''Our civil structures are designed to last 100 years. We've made necessary repairs and are conducting ongoing inspections to ensure safety and prevent recurrence.''
The move follows the suspension of two DMRC employees and an ongoing investigation into the incident, underscoring the organization's commitment to passenger safety.
