Delhi Transport Minister Kailash Gahlot has ordered an inquiry into recent bus accidents in the city after a fatal incident at a metro station. A woman died and 34 others were injured when a DTC bus crashed into a pillar near Shivaji Park metro station in west Delhi. The sudden braking also caused an autorickshaw to collide with the bus, resulting in further injuries.
The inquiry, to be conducted by the Special Commissioner of Transport, will investigate possible reasons for such incidents and recommend preventive measures. The report is expected in seven days. Gahlot emphasized, ''The safety of our commuters is of utmost priority. Immediate action based on the findings will be taken to ensure such incidents do not recur.''
Additional measures under consideration include the procurement of driving simulators for driver training, implementation of an Aadhaar-based attendance system, and breathalyser tests before duty. The Transport Department will also engage NGOs to provide driver training and sensitisation.
