Central Railway has turned to cutting-edge borescope cameras to locate and extract dead rodents from the lobby and designated areas used by motormen and train managers at the expansive Chhatrapatai Shivaji Maharaj Terminus, officials reported on Sunday.
The decision follows complaints from the frontline railway staff about an overpowering stench emanating from deceased rats. Borescope cameras enable non-invasive inspections of inaccessible areas, proving crucial for this task.
Two borescope cameras were deployed, uncovering multiple dead rats in the ceiling and near the toilet and washroom. Samples from the rodents and local water have been sent for analysis. Additionally, robotic cleaning of air-conditioning ducts was conducted, followed by fumigation and sterilization of the premises. Temporary accommodations and facilities have been set up for the affected personnel, ensuring seamless operations in the interim.
