Mitsubishi Joins Forces with Honda and Nissan in Groundbreaking Auto Alliance
Mitsubishi Motors will join an alliance with Honda and Nissan, forming an auto group with over 8 million vehicle sales. The partnership aims to standardize in-vehicle software. This consolidation could help Japanese automakers cut costs and compete in the growing electric vehicle market, especially in the face of intense competition from companies like BYD and Tesla.
Japan's Mitsubishi Motors is set to join an alliance between Honda Motor and Nissan Motor, combining their efforts to create an auto group with sales surpassing 8 million vehicles, according to the Nikkei business daily.
Mitsubishi Motors, 34% owned by Nissan, will collaborate with Honda and Nissan to finalize partnership details, including standardizing in-vehicle software. Both Honda and Nissan were unavailable for immediate comment.
The move comes as Nissan faces declining market shares in the U.S. and China, its two largest markets. The strategic alliance aims to help Japanese automakers cut costs and strengthen their position in the competitive electric vehicle sector dominated by BYD and Tesla.
Previously strong in China, Japanese brands now face stiff competition from domestic automakers with low-cost, software-rich vehicles. Earlier this year, Nissan and Honda announced plans to collaborate on EV components to enhance their global market presence in battery-powered cars.
