Flight Cancellations Surge Amid Beirut-Israel Tensions

Flights to Beirut were cancelled or delayed as tensions rose between Israel and Hezbollah following a deadly strike in the Golan Heights. Airlines including Air France, Lufthansa, and MEA suspended operations citing safety and insurance concerns. The conflict has affected travel and shipping across the region.

Flights to and from Beirut airport were severely disrupted on Monday as tensions flared between Israel and the armed group Hezbollah. The escalation followed a strike in the Israeli-occupied Golan Heights, which resulted in the deaths of 12 children and teenagers.

Air France announced on Monday it would suspend flights between Paris and Beirut scheduled for July 29 and 30, 2024, due to the volatile security situation. Similarly, Lufthansa Group airlines, including Lufthansa, Swiss, and Eurowings, will halt flights to and from Beirut until at least August 5.

Lebanon's Middle East Airlines cited insurance risk issues as the cause for flight disruptions. The attack on the Golan Heights has increased fears of a potential full-scale war between Israel and the Iran-backed Hezbollah. Turkish Airlines and other carriers also canceled multiple flights to Beirut as the conflict escalates.
